Do Women Make Better Leaders
Patricia Love

As I write this blog, there is by no means a personal assault towards men, men are just wired differently. but, that being said, I personally believe women’s wiring, have an edge over men when it comes to leadership. They have had the edge, since the beginning of time. So the question is, do women, make better leaders? In my opinion. YES! Here are my thoughts.

Creating Different Results

There is a saying by Albert Einstein, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” Well insanity has hit, because men have been doing the same insane leadership over and over. It’s not working. In fact, it will be the downfall of our society and the world, If nothing is done to change it. It’s time to create different results. It’s time for women to lead.

Women lead differently, Unfortunately, women have not been given the same opportunity to show it. Just that sentence is proof of how resilient and non-ego driven women are, They never give up, They push forward, but do it with dignity and grace. They have been leading from behind the scenes for eternities, while others have taken credit. Whether that was the invention of a coffee filter system in 1908, to a mathematician at NASA. Women have been behind and in front of many many accomplishments, and even though they were not properly recognized, they would still persevere for the better of all.

It’s been a tiring walk up that grueling equality hill, as long as I’ve been alive. Born in the ’50s and seeing the burning of the bra in the ’60s. I thought I would have seen equality by now. But, I don’t see it! I see 3 steps forward and 1 step back. This saddens me as a woman who has lived my whole life, in what is considered a mans world. Fighting every single day to have my voice heard. Instead, being rejected, being put down, and left out. My opinion was not appreciated, because it didn’t “fit” with what”they” wanted. Yet, those ideas and thoughts brought up by men at other meetings would be broadly and heroically accepted.

Confidence vs Expertise

There was a cartoon published in the New Yorker by Jason Adam Katzenstein years ago showing a man and woman sharing dinner together, with the caption “Let me interrupt your expertise with my confidence.” I think the cartoon speaks for itself, in how men are overly confident and it can affect their leadership. Instead of leading from expertise, they lead by trying to control. They want to fix for the one, rather than communicate for all.

“Let me interrupt your expertise with my confidence”

Reason’s Women Should Lead

Women Are Better Listeners. They will listen to all sides and welcome input before coming to conclusions. Bringing better outcomes for all concerned.

Leading Without Ego. Women are better at putting aside their difference for the good of all and not just the one.

They Work Well With Community. Women have tribes, support, they support one another, build and lead through the thought that, “It takes a village to raise a child, this is an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.” We are all children of the universe, and we need to work as a village.

Female Leaders Are Visionary. They look beyond today to create a better tomorrow for all involved.

Nurturing. is part of most women’s DNA, Humans need acknowledgement, inspiration and encouragement.

Problem Solving. They will look at a problem from all perspectives to see which outcome will be the most desirable for all that are involved.

Instinctive And Intuitive. They understand how to support and align people to create a better environment.

Open To Change. Women are more flexible when it comes to change, they pivot and adapt easier to situations.

Acknowledging their mistakes seems to be easier for women, and they will act with humility, as they better themselves.

Women Don’t Need To Prove anything, which makes them great leaders, whether it is behind a woman or beside a woman. it is just a matter of leading and getting the job done.

Perseverance Women have struggled most of their lives to overcome, even when roadblocks appear daily, but this fuels them to never give up and to find another way. Women’s inner strength helps them to persevere.

Compassion

These attributes of a woman, not only show their leadership qualities but show humanitarian qualities too. With the world today, we need not only women leadership, but we also need their compassion.

The Next Chapter

It’s time to turn the page. A new chapter for our world. We have a lot of work to do. But, standing together, supporting, and empowering ourselves and one another, will push women ahead until our voices are equally heard and appreciated. We can do this, one voice at a time.

If we want the world to change, we have to change the world. It can be done, by doing things differently, We need to stop the insanity of repeating the same mistakes. It’s time for women to take the reins and clean up the mess and move us forward in a global world, where all people matter.

**This blog are my own thoughts and beliefs, and I realize all women and men are different. The goal for this blog was to remind women we must empower other women and girls to want to lead, so we can create a better world for our children, friends, and the people in the world that need women to stand for them. The leadership today around our world is not working…(except for those led by women.)**
