The Importance of Taking Care of Yourself

You’re at the office, there’s a pile of papers on your desk.  You have to read and sign contracts, spearhead a marketing campaign and you have more meetings than you can count.  This means you wind up skipping exercise classes, going home late and not eating meals.

Our lives sometimes feel like a race and usually, the first thing that gets put aside is self-care.  Most of the time something has to go wrong before we realize how important self-care really is.  Here are some reasons why self-care is so important:

Work-Life Balance

Despite the belief, you have to work yourself to death to get anywhere in life, Being overworked and stressed does not make you more productive.  Instead, you become less productive, disorganized and emotionally drained.  It also leads to all sorts of health problems such as anxiety and depression.  You can care for yourself by making sure you break for lunch, and take small breaks throughout the day to get outside for a few minutes to re-energize.

Don’t overextend yourself and set personal boundaries so your mind stays alert, and you stay motivated and healthy.

Stress Management

A small amount of stress is good.  It helps you stay on your toes and accomplish those tasks that have a deadline.  Constant stress, however, is bad and can cause serious health problems.

Chronic stress can cause:

  • Heart Disease
  • Stroke
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • High Blood Pressure

Managing your stress is the key to avoiding serious health conditions.  Here are some tips to help you manage stress:

  • Eat healthy meals
  • Make sure you get enough sleep
  • Take walks during the day
  • Exercise
  • Meditate
  • Connect with friends and family

Keeping stress under control helps you feel more energized, helps you not feel overwhelmed, and lets you stay focused on important work.

Reinforces Self-Worth

Self-care enhances the relationship you have with yourself.  It not only helps with your self-esteem, it tells others you value yourself.  Practicing self-care keeps you at your physical, mental and emotional best so you feel confident and make rational decisions.

Living a healthy lifestyle and pampering yourself is the best thing you can do for yourself.   When you take care of yourself, you are not only telling yourself you are worth it, you are acting like you’re worth it!  This is the importance of self Care, because you deserve it!

and don’t forget to stay young, stay silly and stay fabulous!

 MEET PATRICIA

As an active Realtor®, and in sales for 45 years in Washington State, Patricia coaches women in sales to “Refuel” by turning their “I Can’t” into “I Can.” She interrupts the negative behaviors that have sabotaged them and helps them create a new path towards positive results. Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.”

Patricia’s own story of trauma, death, and a slew of bad decisions as a young adult, forced her to flip her own inner script, or face alternative consequences. By interrupting and healing the negative behaviors that sabotaged her, she was able to find the courage, and new found energy to move forward in all areas of her life. She did this with the action of five words.

These inspiring words created her Exclusive Diamond Method”, as Patricia believes we are all a diamond in the rough, just waiting to shine! So, begin the healing, and shine bright like a diamond.
